People We Love

Nicole is a manager in her professional life and lives in the town of Wächtersbach in the state of Hesse, Germany. She has been dedicated to Romanian dog rescue since 2019. Working with Pusa Bogza, founder of the SFD shelter, she focuses on partnering with German shelters to assist in the rescue of the SFD dogs. I currently network with shelters in Fulda, Babenhausen, Hanau, Pfungstadt and Ingelheim. These are small shelters with free-range areas and the resources to work with SFD’s dogs, who often have known little but life in the kennel. These smaller shelters have an excellent record of placing dogs with adopters. Since the start of the war, these shelters also take in Ukrainian dogs, but hopefully soon peace will return and there will be more opportunity for SFD dogs like Xenia and Miro to travel thanks to Nicole!

Hello, my name is Xenia and this is my brother Miro (I am the beautiful black dog, of course.) We were born as Romanian dogs and came here to the Semper Fidelis Domus shelter when we were found by a very kind lady, Doamna B. We were just puppies. We liked the shelter – especially dinner time – and we were happy to be together. But it was rather boring.

One day we were told a lady named Nicole was helping us and we would be taking a trip! Off to see the veterinarian we went. Lots of pokes and prods, and we got a little paper that said we were fit to travel. For hours we were in a dark kennel with wheels on it. Finally, we came to another shelter in a place called Babenhausen. This shelter was much more interesting; we got to run around and roll in the grass and meet many new dogs.

Soon enough we moved again. This time we moved to something called a “foster home” – yes, a real home! We will not stay here forever, but they are helping us become more accustomed to humans and to other dogs. They call it “being socialized.” We are deciding we like it. The place called “the kitchen” is my favorite room.

The humans are very patient. They feed us by hand and they pat us and scratch our backs and let us sleep on soft furniture. It is very nice. But this “socialization” is very tiring, so we will say goodnight now. Thank you! (Update! Since this writing, Miro and Xenia have both been adopted.)
